Of course the dealer will try to steer you away from the aftermarket, that way
they can make their 300% or so profit on selling you "Audi" catalytic
converters. That's all BULLSH*T!
As required by federal law, the guts inside the cat converter are all the same,
there's no magic (at least with older cars, some of the brand new ones coming
off the lot are another story).
I personally bought a replacement cat from Discount Converters and installed it
myself in my 1993 90S, and it bolted right in. I've been running it now for
almost 2 years and have not had ANY problems. I'll be damned if I'm going to
line the pocket of the nearest Audi dealership any more than I absolutely have
too.
If you are really that gulliable that you are going to believe the service
director's line about only using OEM parts, I'm sure there is someone on this
list that would also like to sell you some "oceanfront property in Arizona" (as
the song goes).
