Idles differently when cold and warm.

Good day,
When my cars is cold, the car idles much differently
then when it's warm. I have the Haynes manual for my
car and I've read the Chapter on Fuel Injections a
couple of times, but, I haven't seem to pin point my
problem.
My car is a 87 Audi 4000S. There is an adjustable arm
(not sure what to call it, it is a long arm that is
connected the gas pedal and the air valve throttle)
that turns the air valve when the gas pedal is
pressed. I can adjust the idle by extending or
shortening that adjustable arm or I can adjust the
idle by using the idle screw. (I'm not sure which one
I should use, is there a happy medium for the two?
Couldn't find any info in my book).
Well I can get my car to idle properly at about
1000rpms, when the engine is warm. However, when the
engine is cold. It idles very low. I must manual
press the gas pedal so that the car doesn't stall. My
car does work well when the engine is warm.
Or I can get the car to idle correctly when the engine
is cold, yet, the car will idle very high when the
engine is warm. However, when the engine is cold, and
I try to rev the engine by pressing the gas pedal, the
car will idle lower then it did before and may stall.
Is this a symptom of a car running too lean?
I've checked the cold start valve, and it works
properly. I do get a nice mist from the injector, and
the car does start easily on cold days. My car just
won't idle right until it warms up. I've also checked
around the air intake, and haven't noticed any vacuum
leaks either.
