Crash! What was that??

So, we’re sitting at the table, eating dinner. A friend of ours had stopped
by Caveman BBQ (if you’re in Kent, and haven’t been there, go there!), and
we were enjoying a nice leisurely slurp of bbq ribs and salmon when we heard
this crash from outside. The dogs started barking and we looked around
wondering what the noise was. We went outside and sure enough, our friends
200tqa had been hit. Slowly going down the other side of the street and
parking was a white Chry#!er minivan, and our neighbor across the street
said the van had hit the car. Sure enough, the Audi had lost its former
glory on the driver’s side.

Damage assessment: 200tqa: not major, but it’s gonna be ‘spensive. Bumper,
taillight, mirror, and bumper trim busted (bumper just scraped up, but not
out of place). All panels have scratches along them and minor denting, as
the driver kept her wheels turned into the car (figures). Front fender looks
relatively unscathed, but it was bad light, so not sure. Offensive Audi
Basher: bent bumper, busted headlight and grill, mashed fender almost but
not quite touching wheel/tire, various scratches down the side.

Now how the heck did this happen?!? Well, we wondered that ourselves. The
audi was parked a good 120’ from the corner the driver came around, was half
on the sidewalk (not sticking out into the street too far, and it’s a wide
street), and the driver said she “must have slipped or something.” Hmmmm
 or
something indeed. Her story did change when the cop showed up, much to her
husbands chagrin (he kept trying to shut her up, as we found out why). Seems
her youngster had distracted her and she just wasn’t paying attention.
Ticket #1. Officer asked specifically if youngster was in the van. “Yes.”
“In a car seat?” “Well, belted into the back seat.” ”In a car seat?” “Well,
no.” Ticket #2. Husband very unhappy now.

Anyhow, no human injuries, one scraped up audi, one scraped up audi driver
who hates to drive the 4runner anymore (wonder why??). Cop did take several
looks at both vehicles, and something of a “gee, that held up pretty good”
comment was uttered. So, raise a beer for our friend and the 200tqa.
