200 clock & CB?

I now have my 200's dash apart trying to find the cause of the intermittent
clock.  I don't see anything obvious - even a thorough inspection of the CB
with a magnifying glass revealed nothing.  Can these clocks just fail slowly?

Also, there is a switch with a multi detented slide control on the CB behind
the fuel gauge.  It is marked diesel / benzin so I imagine it is for the fuel
gauge but I don't know what the different selections on the switch are for.
