hood struts upside down

I put new used hood (bonnet) struts on my 200 today.
In looking at the before and after pictures I took,
I noticed that I installed them upside down. That is,
the cartridge is on the bottom and the rod is on top
when the hood is raised. Does it make a difference?
The hood opens and stays open just fine. If my dreams,
maybe they were on wrong to begin with and I installed
them correctly. :-)
