Folks- I am probably the least "computer literate" person on the list, but I
have worked out a solution to the problem of capturing the right kind of data
from the list. Several years ago, I started copying good technical posts for
my 1990 V8 onto floppy discs. As I approached 7 floppies, I began to wonder
how useful the data would be, because the data was stored unorganised. At
that time the only comp we had was a lap top with limited memory, speed etc.
Recently we got a new computer which can write to a CD. I copied all the good
posts from the floppies to the new comp desk top, and sorted them by common
area to determine what and how many categories of data I had accumulated. I
then selected the "least common denominator" set, and stored all the saved
posts in folders with those titles onto a CD ROM. Now when I read a post with
some potential future benefit, I simply click "save as" and store the new
post on the CD ROM in the appropriate folder. The list of 42 categories I am
using can use some improvement, and it is tailored to my tech interests, but
the technique would work for anyone. Because of ther diversification in
interests even when limited to a specific Audi model group, I doubt this
approach will work genericaly. It will however work on an individual basis.
