possessed headlights?

I noticed something rather strange since installing H4/H1 euro lights in
my 4kq last week. The stock highbeam switch works now. Before it would
flash the lights, but they wouldn't stay on. I had added another switch
which did make the highs stay on when I wanted them, but I am more than
a bit confused why the stock stock switch should start working now. The
highs were relayed before, so although the wire is all new, nothing has
changed in the set up other than adding the H1 highs to the circuit on
each side. Any ideas? This isn't really a problem just a puzzle.
