Why doesn't my ABS work? How to test?

Symptoms:

After pullings from a stop, if I quickly get up tp ~40-45 or over, I don't =
get the off light. Probelm here is  if I use the brakes, the car pulls hard=
 to the right. So I shut the abs off for safety. If I'm driving around town=
, under ~40, the off light will go on, but can be shut off with the button,=
 until it goes on again. Same on the highway. If the light is on, I turn th=
e abs "on" and the light stays off, but I have the hard pulling to the righ=
t. Next, with the abs "on" I can feel the kick back through the pedal at mo=
derate braking when abs has no reason to go on. What gives and how do I tes=
t it? The local "Audi Quattro expert" rip off place wants to charge 97.50 t=
o just hook up the abs computer.
