quattro wasn't an "option" in those days.  It was sold as a separate model.
And as such it came standard with a bunch of other gizmos and luxuries
and as a result the price was quite a bit higher.  It wasn't until
the mid-90s that AOA began to sell quattro as an individual option
that's independent of other options.
