Prices are definitely going up on my 87 type 44. I have a fairly good
relationship with the parts guy at the local dealer here in Nova
Scotia. When I was looking into an AC compressor awhile ago the price
was ~700 Canadian and suddenly jumped to ~1400. New price scheme says
he. When looking for parts for the rear track control arm he quoted me
~250-300 Canadian for either end. WTH! New price scheme says he. One
can get the WDTing, OEM, for ~250 Canadian or ~100 US from other
sources. Now when I phone up for part prices he and I have a good
laugh. I have a feeling that Audi don't want to fool with the oldies
any more and are satisfied letting the discounters do the work of
selling parts. Obviously they are getting a deal on the parts. Either
that, or they don't want to see the oldies on the road. In Canada the
auto manufacturer must keep parts available for 15 years following
production of the vehicle. After that, theoretically, you're on your
own, but there always seems to be a parts stash somewhere if you look.
Best regards,
Geo
