Mine mad it 60K miles before it hammered the gearbox open. Then it did it
again at 118K. Not happy about that one part.... (all it is is some
stupid big headed rivit that supposed to hold the final drive pinion in
place. Should have been circlips, like the remaining VW gearboxes, and
the update post '87 boxes).
