Have experienced this problem on my '88 80  5spd. as well.  Clutching - i.e. unloading eng.- terminates the bucking but it really gets
going quickly esp.noticeable when opening throttle in slightly too high a gear (i.e. high intake vac.condition?).  While not causally
related, recommed checking integrity of all  rubber "doughnuts" on exhaust system as I think one broke after a particularly violent
episode.  Is this "bucking" issue confined to 4cy. engines?
