I hear negative comments on the Konis but I have 80K+ on the Koni yellows
(sport) on my 91 200 with no problems yet. Ride quality tends to be a very
subjective thing and unless you can complete an extensive drive with a lot of
different car/shock combinations, you have no choice but to rely on the
opinions of others. After installing a new set of Boge's on a previous type
44 and being very disappointed, I swore I would never buy another
nonadjustable shock. The Konis can be set from softer than stock to bone
jarring firm. They may not be designed and built as well a Bilstein but its
nice to be able to dial out some of the understeer, soften up the suspension
in the winter or set them firm for the track. The only real disadvantage is
the AUDI Konis have the old technology and are not externally adjustable.
It might be worth looking at some of the Weitec shocks which are also
adjustable for ride height.
Let us know, Jan Lahtonen
