Can you turn the trunk lock cylinder to the setting that's supposed to
lock/unlock via the vacuum system? If you can set the lock to the
"automatic" position, which is with the key slot horizontal, and the trunk
remains unlocked while the doors lock, you probably need to lubricate the
little lever tied to the vacuum motor rod. It tends to freeze up with lack
of lubrication.
Easiest "fix" is to remove the lock assembly from the trunklid by releasing
the two lever connectors (one to the latch and one to the vacuum
switch--they each have a plastic "keeper" holding them onto the lock
assembly) and take off two nuts. I used a combination of Kroil and some
persistent effort to move the lever the vacuum switch rod fastens to, and
then used a stiff-bladed putty knife to encourage some lithium grease to go
back into the assembly. I've loosened up locks on both the 200q20v and
the V8 using this method. Others have reported the need to actually carve
up the lock housing to get the lever to move (it's in the archives).
