If your "lights" hadn't "brighten" I would have thought
about that. Could it be that you cured the symptom (by
changing to a better/new belt or changing the tension)
and not the cause (high load due to ... hm... whatever)?

Could anybody clear on how a *slipping* belt causes an
*increase* in output voltage?
