I recall a story about two young fellows who contracted to drive a
classic American luxo-barge cross country for the owner... many pages,
weeks, and stream of consciousness paragraphs later, the car was
delivered, as promised. It did, of course, have some of that wear and
tear you are bound to get from a journey across such a wild and woolly
continent. (Of course now that Route 66 has been pretty much superceded
by interstates, it's a lot less fun getting from here to there.)
I think that story did far more damage to the condition of young writers
efforts than to the car.
