when i bought mine- 88 5k with the sucking and awful 10 speaker bose thing,
the p.o. had wired (can you really call a twist cap wired?) in a 4 channell
alpine head unit with no adapters - it didnt really work as some of the
speakers made noise and others didnt. i imagine some interface would be
needed as when i took mine apart - all the speakers had non-standard ohm
values, usually indicative of a lack of compatibility with "standard"
aftermarket car audio. im not sure if+what was/is available and/or what it
did/might do.

i wound up rewiring the whole thing - given the quality of the wiring in the
rest of the car, i figured id go all brand new. the only catch was to leave
the antenna booster (little black box about 2x2x10" mounted on drivers side
of rear seatback). i ripped it out, and then reverse-engineered why i didnt
have any fm =) or power antenna.

i found that the front and rear separates have a very non-standard (typical
bose) ohm values at the bose crossover. but the drivers themselves were all
4ohm. i used cheap aftermarket xovers and rewired the front seps with those.
i used aftermarket seperates in the back (disco'd the door tweeters) and
tweeters where the dash speakers go (padded down and x'd over @8k - adds a
bit o lift to the image height)

i found that the factory speakers dont sound 1/2 bad with a decent amp. i
just guessed at xover values. i later did a nicer separate set in the doors,
but it worked pretty well for what it was...
