Budget quattro

Hi Matt-
For $1500 I think your best bet is to buy the latest, best condition 4000
quattro you can find. I drove a 4000s quattro for many years and I still
miss it. It was a great drivers car, great in the snow, was very
dependable, and they still look good on the road today-if not dated. The
non turbo 2.2 (or 2.3 on some later cars) is very dependable. And if I'm
not mistaken, some of the '87 cars had a 130 hp motor, vs 115 for the
earlier cars. If I were in your shoes, thats what I'd pursue. Several
people on this list have put turbo motors in their 4000q's, very cool. I
believe that $1500 will not buy you a dependable 5000tq or 200, but again,
that's my opinion.

I am new to the audi scene and I was wondering what model will give me
the most bang for the buck (it must be a quattro). I want something
that is light, awd and has a good motor. What motor is prefered, the
2.3l
or the 2.2 turbo? Most likely I'll get a 4 door because the 2 doors
are
out of my budget (looking to spend about $1500). I was thinking maybe
a 5000 or a 200. Also is it possible to either put a turbo from a 5000
on a 4000 or swap out the entire motor? Would this be recommened, I
would think it would be since the 4000 is lighter.
Any sugestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and help.

 Thanks,
 Matt
