re. Cracked manifold, or broken bolt?

Grant,
That would be difficult to do without pulling the manifold off and
thouroughly inspecting it.
The spare I have from an '86 has two or three hairling cracks just big
enough to shine a bright light through. I would think that these cracks may
cause a slightly discernable leak depending where the car is in the warm up
cycle.
I was not able to easily see these while the manifold was on the car, even
though everything around it was removed.

am having a hard time looking at the manifold past the intake and turbo
The car "ticks" heavily when I start it. I figure what ever the issue, it
is affecting a single cylinder, because the "ticking" is steady but not
constant.
