Not completely true. I always thought this was true but my recent addiction
to the junkyard has taught me otherwise. There are FWD 80's (both the "4000"
and the later "80") that have the 5 cylinder engine. The 4000s have the
engine like the VW Quantum (not the syncro) 110hp, basically the same as the
quattro/syncro engine with a different exhaust manifold.
Also I've seen FWD 90's (from MY '88 and later) with the 4 cylinder engine.
Leater seats, all the 90 badges and all the emissions stickers listing it as
a "90"
Just my California point of view. Might be different in other
states/countries.
