'Treten' is related to 'tread' - in this context it implies a bit of force.  'Durch' does mean 'through', in this sense through all
possible throttle settings to the last one you find.

"Ausfahren" is another - it means to drive just literally as fast as the car will go.

A lot of I5s were and are driven this way on the Autobahns.
