Subject: Headlight Washer & Heated Mirror Questions

 HI all,

 Two questions about my 98.5 A4 1.8TQ:

 1. The owner's manual says the side view mirror heat automagically
comes on at "low temperatures". What temperature might that be? I haven't
felt any heat out of them with the outside temp. display as low as 38F so
 far.

 2. Do I have headlight washers? Maybe they're broken? All I see on the
front bumper are a couple of small covers where you would expect them to be.
The owner's manual and other paperwork say I do (a standard feature, in
fact, not an option), and I see two different motors attached to the fluid
reservoir, but I can spray the windshield for 10 seconds and still nothing
gets wet up in the headlight area. What's up with that?

 Thanks everyone,

 Scott

I had a '98.5 A4 1.8T. You must turn the headlights on to make the headlight
washers pop out of the bumper. They will come up after 2 or 3 seconds of
spraying . This was much fun for pedestrians to watch. They always reminded
me of one of the tools that would pop out of R2-D2's "head" in Star Wars.

The first winter I had my car I noticed that the "heated" outside mirrors
never seemed to work so I told the dealership. They ended up replacing them
both THREE times because every new mirror they put in was warped. I did
notice them working once when it was 10degrees F below freezing.(BTW, your
washer nozzles and drivers side door lock should also be heated)
