Alternator Woes

i had a problem on my coupe, it turned out the length of wire between the
alternator and battery was so corroded that the current draw was so high
there was a massive voltage drop accross it......
dont know if thats any help
also htere is 2 wires, one supplys the electrics/battery and the smaller one
does something else (which is important and cant remember what but it
delivers a signal to the alternator i think which is necessary)
