Yes...collapsing of crankcase breather hoses is a seemingly
universal problem on all Audis from the mid eighties onwards; they
disintegrate from the inside and turn to mush. 5000's, 200q20v's,
V8qs...they all do it. Dunno about the a-series cars etc.
When removing, try to be careful not to get hose parts inside the
crankcase. Slicing off the hose close at the fitting on the block
with a fresh razor blade might be the best way to get it off cleanly,
then slice the hose open on the side to remove it from the block.

Probably one fitting is larger than the other :-)

Go to the vendor list on the website for phone numbers, and call
either Carlsen, Clair, The Parts Connection, or Blau, to name a few
of the most popular parts places...and see who has the best price.
If you call Carlsen or Clair, ask them to give you the audi part
number when they look up the hose, for future reference. You can
also use http://catalog.exist.ru to try and find the part number, but
I have no idea how up to date it is.
Chances are you can do much better than the price quoted by the
dealer...even though Carlsen and Clair are dealerships, they do a ton
of parts business and offer discounted prices. When talking to any
of these places, mention you are a quattro/Audifans list member, we
usually get a small discount off their already reasonable prices.
