'94 100CS maladies

As I have posted before, I just purchased a '94 100CS Avant. The car had
39K+ miles on it when I picked it up at the BMW dealer in Kansas City. I
drove it back to Maine on its maiden voyage, and my wife promptly began to
put it into service. The trip back was flawless, as was the car. Obviously
well maintained, and with a known service history.

After nearly a month, a couple of problems serviced.

First of all, the high pressure hydraulic hose that runs to the steering
rack started to leak. I was adding about half a cup of Pentosin a week, and
my mechanic, who is an Audi Master Tech, promptly ordered the replacement.

We replaced the hose yesterday, and MAN! what a job!
The aircleaner assembly had to be removed as well as the mastercylinder and
brake booster.

The other problem is the rear view mirror on the right door intermittently
will look down when the car is backed, and the back-up lights will work
intermittently as well. The diagnosis is the switch that controls the back
up lights, which is either under the quadrant on on the side of the
transmission....we'll find it on another visit soon.

It appears that the car "uses" a quart of oil in about 2,000 miles, but it
is really too soon to be sure. I'll let you know.

In the meantime, the car is proving to be perfect for its intended service.
We will be driving it to Florida in November, and then after the arrival of
my daugher's second child, to California and back by December 15th.

More as it happens,

Roger
