No hot start (1986 5kcstq)

I have not been using this car all summer as it has no inspection sticker,
no AC and the last time I used it I had a hot start problem. I decided
that the fall temperatures we have been experiencing here in the NE would
make the last two issues moot, so I took the car to get it inspected.
Unfortunately it failed to start while in the test bay and I had to wait
half an hour before I could drive it home...very embarrassing!
While waiting I pulled a plug and it was dry and seemed to have spark
(tough to see when your sitting in the car turning the key). So I am
assuming a fuel problem.
Here's what happens.
Starts perfect cold. Runs perfect at any temp. Will restart when hot within
five minutes or so of stopping, after that it's dead as a door nail for
thirty minutes (this was with the hood open on a chilly, breezy day).
I tried putting the fuse in the fuel pump and running the fuel pump for a
few minutes prior to trying to start, but no luck. Later I tried the
injector cooling fan by shorting the sensor to the block and it ran fine...
don't know if the sensor is OK though. I also took the banjo bolt out of
the fuel filter (bean can sized one next to the idle stabilizer valve) and
there was no pressure or fuel there. Is this part of the fuel system
supposed to stay pressurized? When I turned on the fuel pump, gas came out
the filter just fine.
There doesn't appear to be any codes in the ECU, but then I couldn't get it
to "not start" again after I got it home.

Any suggestions??

Paul
