A6/S6 avant rear hatch squeak

Just a quick note...I know a couple of others are challenged by the same
rear hatch squeak that's been haunting me for the past six months. My wife's
A6 is dead silent, so I know it's *possible* to have a quiet wagon.
I thought my noise was in the plastic window surround. Nope. Then I moved on
to the fat trim piece that holds the sunvisor. Spent a lot of time playing
with that. No change.
Finally, I noticed that one of the two hatch latches was slightly
misaligned, and I realigned it. To do so, you need to lift the cover to the
well and then remove the chrome trim piece. It's held on with 4 phillips
head screws and a plastic trim piece in the middle. Then remove the plastic
pieces surrounding the male part of the latch and you'll see 10 (11?) mm
nuts on each side of the latch. If you loosen these you can then move the
latch around. You won't need to move it much...and you may be able to tell
which one is not aligned. In my case one was obviously pointing off in the
wrong direction and I could picture the guide pin rubbing against places it
didn't belong.
I also sprayed the latches (both sides) with silicon spray, but until I got
the latch realigned it continued to squeak.
Hopefully my squeak is cured. Wonder what the Audi gods have in store for me
next. :)
