89 200Q leaking from shift linkage seal?

Two things.  If by "fail" you mean leak at all, then
mine did.  It probably wouldn't leak a liter in 20
yrs., but I changed it anyway.  I had my box down, but
this one is doable on the car.  The lever slips right
off the shaft(it's only held by a stop screw with a
point that fits into a hole).  You can pull the seal
with a small sheet metal screw real easily.  Also this
is a real common seal that you can get at any bearing
supply house.  If you really need the size or other
info, I've got it somewhere.
