I drove the 4000 under rally conditions at the O'Neil school: we did not
lock the diffs, and only did so to demonstrate the effect of left foot
braking sped differences. The result was that we could exit 90 or greater
degree corners with camber changes somewhat more precisely and presumably
faster with the center diff locked. However this also meant that the car
was more sensitive to power which in turn reduced the effect of LFB
resulting in some oversteer and slower exit speeds if not done properly.
So play with the control, unless your J turns are spot on, you will not find
much difference. Uphill, negative camber, dry gravel or wet earth/grass
would be the most likely areas from where the locked center diff will help.
The second lock position cuts out at the speeds you will be driving.
