In the course of acompletely unrelated repair over the
weekend, I noticed a small leak from the gas lines
running on the bottom of the car under the passenger's
side. The leak was inside the rubber bushing which
secures the lines inside the metal fasteners.
Apparently, water got trapped between the rubber
bushing and the gas line, and over time the gas line
rusted through. There were actual holes under two of
the bushings, and serious rust damage under the
others.
Well, after much wrestling, got the lines removed. I
think that this may have contributed to consistent
cold start problems, as gas lines were slowly
depressurizing over night through these lines.
Are there better replacements available than plain
tube gas lines? Anybody else seen this problem?
Note: Likely only to occur in the salty environs of
Chicago.
