Might do it with a positive displacment supercharger. I'm still toying with
the idea of doing this sometime. One thing, the stock UR-s4/s6 has less
horsepower, but more torque than the 3.6 V8. The 3.6 5 speed is slower than
the 20vt s4/6. V8 5 speed 0-60 is about 6.8sec and the s4 is around 6.5sec
because it's got a lot more torque than the 3.6 V8. Now the 4.2 has much
more torque than the 3.6. Looking at Scott Mo's site, an MTM modified 20v
has 428hp, but the amazing thing, it has 358ft/lbs of torque at only 2600
RPM! That beats ANY of the Audi V8's and the torque peak is much lower in
that I5 than the V8. Now obviously an MTM modified 20v is expensive, but if
you use the NF block, with the 7A head, EFI, and a custom turbo and
manifolds, it would be much cheaper than an MTM 20v, and you might be able
to do it cheaper than the V8.
100 bucks for the NF block
$750 for the 20v head
$800 for a Garrett turbo
An RS2 EXH manifold for $685
EFI for $1500
Custom intake manifold for $500
$500 for a really good intercooler
That is $3335, maybe add another $600 for custom pistons if you want/need
them. add in another $1000 for odds and ends and stuff I'm
forgetting, and its the same price as the S6 V8 engine, and you don't have
to build new mounts for it.
My $0.02
Mike
