I agree with you concerning using All Season tires. I have NEVER used a set
of dedicated winter tires on any car. As long as the tread depth is about
half or so, I hve never felt any need. After half tread depth on the
Quattros, though, I feel the car is apt to track strangely in slush and
loose, wet snow...the sort of thing we get a lot of here in Eastern, coastal
Maine.

The past two sets of tires that I bought for my (now departed) 200 Avant,
were Firestone Touring LH. They were quiet, had excellent traction and
lasted really well. Price was right, also. I bought mine from a tire
dealer in Bangor who used to be the old Audi dealer service
manager...helpful as I don't like just anyone either touching my cars or
jacking them.

On my 100CS Avant, we have new (from the selling dealer) Continentals (or
some sort), and on my V8 I have new (from the previous owner) Pirellis.
this will be my first winter with both, so I expect that they will both be
fine.

Roger
