Subject: valve noise

Hello,I have a 86TQ Avant with 225,000 on it.I am begining to have valve noise just about everytime I start out.I have driving this car for 100,000 miles and over the years as the oil would near the 3000 mile mark I would start to get noise after letting it sit over night.Usually changing the oil would take car of it for awhile. But as the miles have creeped up it has been getting worse. If I let it sit for a day or two it gets really pissed and will tap for a good 15min of driving. My question is, are some of the lifters just shot or can this be a condition of the guides and valve clearances being worn out and the lifters just can't cope anymore? I have had it on mobil one for 90,000 and it uses no oil.If it needs new lifters I will gladly give her some.It is not an exhaust leak at the manifold.I know how to check the lifters when the valve cover is off but I just wanted to get some feedback about lifters going bad.Thanks,John.
