There's a red type 44 taxi in Utrecht, it's got a TDI engine transplanted
when the original petrol I5 became uneconomical (when fuel prices rose to
their current level). It's been going on forever ('89 registration, I
think), far longer than all the other taxis. If I have my camera with me
next time I spot it, I'll get a snap.
(On a tangent: the new A6 seems pretty popular as a cab here, I've seen
several in the neighbourhood. Not enough to outnumber the M-B E-class, though.)

Also, I've got a press kit detailing the I5 TDI engine for the type 44.
Never seen one either, not even a non-turbo diesel type 44.

Regards, Tom
