Speaking of efficiency, the first TDI in a passenger car was introduced in
the
Type44. That was the initial sparking to the Diesel development that is
still
going on nearly everywhere on this planet. The Audi 100 TDI with its
fantastic
120PS inline 5cylinder won many prices and world records both modified and
stock.

Hmm.
Once again I'm amazed. I've never seen one.
Over here most Type 44s still on the road are 2.0 or 2.3 non-turbos. Turbos
are reasonably rare even in Germany.
The newer cars - especially the A4 - seem to be mostly TDIs. They are no
slouches on the Autobahn, although all diesels (turbo or not) seem to have
trouble with hills.
