Theories on possible cause of off center wheel on 4kq sought.

HAudi,
The front passenger wheel on my 86 4kq is about 1" off center toward
the rear of the car, as measured by comparing wheel to wheel centers
between the two sides of the car. In other words, I measured the
distance between front and rear wheel centers on the drivers side, and
compared it to the measurement taken on the passenger side, and there
was a disparity of about 1" between the two measurements. I can't find
any evidence of frame damage on that front corner, but the wheel is
definitely off center. Also, the car drives down the road straight as
an arrow, and doesn't seem to wear the affected tire abnormally. Any
theories as to what might cause this malady? Could it be a bent control
arm or bent subframe? Anyone know of a way to isolate the cause?
I am about to start an MC conversion on the car, and don't want to
waste my effort only to find out later that the front frame is hosed.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Tim Sexton
