200a brake cable purchace/preservation

My wife used my E-brake yesterday, so I have to free up two dragging brakes, 
and hunt for new cables.  I've replaced many cables over the years, but 
usually they rust and drag the brakes after about a year.  My daughter will 
soon be driving, so I'd like the E-brake to work properly.  She's unlikely 
to notice a dragging brake before everyone around her does :(

Has anyone found a way to delay these cables from splitting and rusting?

Are there any sales going on brake cables?

Are there any other cables that could be made to work?
