AntiSeize

I use antiseize on all repairs and maintenance (including the wheel nuts
and studs) on all the family cars I maintain; Jags (2), Tempo, Jetta,
Aries and the Audi. Recently I have been buying my cars used, and not
always well maintained. My first and largest problem is taking things
apart. I ruin too many parts because the nuts or studs are seized and
the only way to get them off is to use a 'nut cracker', grinding disk,
or the 'hot wrench'.
My early mechanical 'training' was on English motorcycles. On those the
problem was vibration loosening the nuts and having them drop off on the
trip. We used a lot of locktite which in fact served the same purpose
over the long run by sealing the threads and reducing corrosion.
My local mechanic who owns his own shop and does a lot of work for local
clients with constant repeat business, sprays antiseize on the studs and
mating surfaces of the hub as a matter of course when putting rims back
on the hubs.
So far I haven't had anything drop off any of the automobiles I
maintain, including the wheels.
