I have a 90 90 20v. 193,000 miles well maintained.
Recently had plugs, wires (ouch$$$), cap, rotor, air
filter. I noticed during a trip on the highway doing
about 80mph or so that the check engine light came on.
Not very hard driving, flow of traffic kind of thing.
When I pulled the code, it gave me a 4,1,2,1. Which
as you all know, is the code for a "first knock
regulation" Now the car frequently turns on the check
engine light... seemingly at random. The only time I
notice that the light isn't on is when you would
EXPECT a knock... ie first and second gear under
heaviest acceleration. It's clear to me that the
engine thinks that it's pinging... the timing becomes
heavily retarded. Sometimes it will go away if I back
off the throttle, sometimes if I give it full
throttle. Sound to anyone like a bad knock sensor?
The symptoms seem to point that way, but the engine is
capable of recognizing a bad sensor... hence code
4,1,2,2... but I don't get that code... anyone who has
had a similar problem please drop me a line at
gododgerblue_2000 at yahoo.com I certainly would
appreciate it. My gut reaction was just to start
replacing components until I found the problem, but
whe the cheapest knock sensor I can find is TPC at 125
bucks... you get the idea. Thanks all in advance.
