availability of technical information

Despite the laws both in the US and in Europe, and probably elaswhere as
well, some of the biggies are resisting 'til way beyond the time the last
courts have their say.  Getting information from Porsche and BMW in
particular is well nigh impossible, even for a fee.  Daimler Benz is
probably the same.  VAG offers much information, but in a form that will
require a lot of effort by techno types before it's really of much use.  Uwe
is making great strides there, but even he finds information that isn't
clear in it's delivered form, I think.  It's nice to have the output from
the controllers, but it would be even nicer if we knew what the numbers
meant.  John
