I just wanted to clarify something before I place an order. I
asked earlier
this week if there were any mailorder places that offered
special discounts.
It was mentioned that ClairParts was one place that offered a
discount to
list members. I checked the audifans.com Parts section, and it
says to talk
to Mac or Barry.

But when I emailed them to ask them what this discount might be,
he replied
that there is no additional discounts offered over and above
their regular
prices that you see on their website. He says that what people
might be
referring to is that their prices are "discounted" as compared
to the prices
at the parts counter at your local dealership.

Is this true? Has anyone ever actually received an "additional"
discount
off their listed prices? (ie: By calling Barry and mentioning
our Quattro
List, they then got an additional 5-10% off their listed
prices?)

I live near Clair, and buy parts there frequently. If you go to the Clair
Audi (and Porsche and Honda) Parts Dept., you will pay whatever Audi list
is. They used to sometimes give you an "Internet discount" there if you
asked, but they never really liked to.

But, around back, Clair also sells auto parts (for all their makes)
wholesale. And they will let you buy there if you order by email, or over
the Internet, or call first. That part of Clair is called Clair Parts
Express. It is separate from the retail-over-the-counter selling of parts.
This is where your mechanic goes to get his parts. I'm not sure if they
would give you much help in looking through catalogs for part numbers. But
I have ordered common stuff there by description without part numbers. This
is where Mac is. If you email them, they will respond very quickly-within
hours.

I'm sure there are certain places on certain days selling certain things
that beat Clair on price. But if they do, it's not by much. The discount
you will get at Clair Parts Express is about the best you will ever get. I
shop prices carefully. I doubt they are open nights, but I think they have
some Saturday hours.
