[LAC] H4 vs H4/H1 questions

In order to add Euro lights to my non-Audis, I'm considering
a conversion to 5.75" round (sealed-beam size) Hella H4
headlights, similar to Huw Powell's Coupe lights, or
perhaps 4"x6" rectangular units (replacing
car-specific-shaped DOT units, the Euro versions of
which are expensive as well as out of production).
There is not a whole lot of room, which would likely require
extra effort to move dual lights closer together than they
were on whatever car I take the mounting brackets from.
So, I wonder, as I don't tend to use high beams a whole lot -
mostly as a signalling device, rarely as a main beam for more than
5 seconds, until the next oncoming car shows up - do I really need
the second unit with an H1 high-beam filament?
Many European cars have only the H4 low/high beam, e.g.
typ44 100, for Audi content. Based on that, can I consider that setup
enough? (If it's good enough for Audi, ...)
Does the fact that the large-sealed-beam-size lights (7" round, 6"x8"
rect.) are available only as H4s, while the small sizes I'm considering
are H4 and H1, indicate that there's a need for that, or is that simply
a matter of offering something to fill all available DOT mounting sockets?
Also, beyond providing another pair of 60(+)-watt filaments, is there
any difference between an H4 light on high beam and a H1 high beam
light? I ask because I'm considering that if I'm going to the trouble of
fabricating dual-light brackets for each side, I might as well
put H4s in all 4 positions, with 2 55W/60W bulbs and 2 80W/100W,
giving me the option to switch between 55W and 80W low-beams,
depending on need, as well as really 3 levels of high beam
("hello."/"please move over"/"now!").
thanks for any suggestions,
