Why fool around with the small turbo. For very short money, you can
pick up a Chrysler turbo (they made more than a million). They were designed
for 2.2 litters, there is a ton of info on them, several different
configurations in case you are using an intercooler, all sorts of aftermarket
parts, and they are for the most part Garrets. Their rough equivalent of the
RS2 is $700.00 new. This was only available through their high performance
catalog. No car was produced with it. they regularly cranked 300hp out of
their 2.2 liter cars.
For an interesting article do a Google search for "turbo and mini
van". There is a guy in CT. running a turbo mini van at the drags. Regularly
dusts modified Mustangs and Camaros. Interesting discussion (I've lost the
link) on additional fuel supply. Chrysler injection is electronic of course.
Basically, they just mount another injector in the intake hose after the
intercooler with an off/on switch. Over 14 psi, they turn it on. They show
how to make it automatic for $3.00. Love those Hot Rod guys.
