Coupe Quattro no Worky! The saga continues

SO I finally have daylight to work on the no-start CQ, and I spend ~1hour
fiddling around building a new 1115 test light. Then I blew the fuse
controlling diagnostics. DOH!

Replaced the fuse, then pulled the codes - 4431 - the Idle Stablizer Valve.
A code I have had since Day 1 owning this car. That was the only code I
know that won't contribute to a no-start condition.

Pulled plug number 1 - black with whitish powdery stuff on the eletrodes.
Pretty normal. Plugged it in to check for spark, enlisted an extra
hand....the car starts right up, on 4 cylinders, number one blurping through
the open spark plug socket.

WTF?????

Plugged it all together again and the car runs just fine, starts easily, no
problems to report that I didn't know about before - the bomb, whirring
noise, etc.

Of course the car feels so stiff to me know - I've been driving a Ford Focus
from my roommate off and on and it sure it GOOD being back in an Audi, let
me tell you!

Any thoughts? It would seem an electrical gremlin has gotten into my
ignition. I was thinking of replacing the fuel pump relay since it might be
getting tired in its old age but I've never been a fan of randomly replacing
parts!

Thanks for your input!

Richard
