Shifter/Clutch Probs '89 200Q

Hi Larry;
If your shifter is sloppy, you've got a problem with the linkage or the
shifter mechanism. It is very unlikely the problem is in the transmission.
Your other problem sounds like a dragging clutch. This can be caused by
a problem with the clutch hydraulics or by a mechanical problem with the
clutch, i.e the clutch disc sticking on the input shaft splines and not
completely disengaging from the flywheel when the pressure plate is
released, broken "fingers"on the pressure plate, bent throwout arm, bad
throwout bearing, etc. Some early UrS4s had the shaft spline problem -
seemed to be caused by a build-up of lining dust from what I can recall.
Neither issue is an easy fix, unfortunately.
