Although we don't yet know what that noise is,,,,,,,, every and I mean every
30 valve V6 we have had has made that noise. It seemed at first (after
changing our underwear) that it was a rod knock. but it wasn't. I am close to
being convinced it is in fact lifter noise (but it sounds like lower end )
because audis always made lifter noise, and it goes away once there is oil
pressure. another possibilty is the oil pump building pressure. but I have to
say that's a guess. so far, we've had no lower or upper end problems with
these 30 valve 's that would come close to warranting a tear down. we have
changed several water pumps that were noisey, but that noise doesn't go away.
