On the Jeeps it's a  trait, the hats separate from the rotor as a normal
course of use...bad design.

Very common, a friend who has a machine shop has a collection of wafer
thin to the fins rotors piled up in the corner.  The scarry part is that
these rotors were brought in by customers to be resurfaced....
