Trip report: A visit to the dark side

After Bob P and I cancelled our S car national visit, I needed some sort of
turbine fix, so, by accident... I visited a place in Illinois that claims to
have the fastest street Supra, and builds them for customers as well. For a
measly 5500USD you can assure yourself 10sec quarter miles and 560RWHP!
Stock fuel system etc. What was more impressive were the 800HP versions
(dynoed as well), of which there were a few in the shop. Also watched a
rather exciting video of the street car 9.54 at 144 drag time (to put that in
reference, my personal best FJ1400 time is 10.05 at 147). Rather serious
enthusiasts of speed, you can find them at sound-performance.com. Other
interesting items driven by the owners: 89 Turbo porsche and a turbo 535
BMW, both looking rather stock. In fact, everything in the shop looked stock
save for the big ass IC's hanging in the air dams. Nice work, planning on a
return visit to get some rides.

For those of you searching for more power references for your S-type cars,
here's some of the tidbits I got in my abbreviated visit:
* The 800hp street cars run 3in exhaust at the turbo flared to 3.5in which
runs to the back of the car.
* Intake pipe is 4in to the turbo, 3in from turbo to IM.
* All cars are speed density (read: no Mass Airflow meter).
* 560hp can be had from the stock fuel system, dual intank pumps and dual -6
lines used for the 800hp+ cars.
* The single HKS sequential bypass valve is vented to atmosphere before the
IC. * Single turbo (see site for details): Big.
* Both intake and exhaust cams are adjustable (go Bernie!).
* All cars used single injectors (800hp cars used) 750cc each if memory
serves
* 560hp cars use stock ingnition, 800hp cars used complete aftermarket
systems = no piggybacking
* Intake manifold chamber volumes are increased in cars over 600hp
* Exhaust manifolds are custom bent tubular style
