Pleasant Discount Tire experience

I'd been noticing a significant increase in front end vibration lately
(I always have some - 3 of my 4 Momo Ferrari rims are slightly bent -
I'm waiting for the tires to wear out before I get them straightend). As
the passenger side front tire (SP8000 225/50 ZR16) was beginning to
feather on the outside I decided to rotate the tires on Sunday.
Lo and behold - the inside edge had seperated/chunked 1/3 of the way
around - to the point I could actually put my fingers under and lift the
steel belt. Shivers! God knows how many 90 mph plus jaunts...
I had bought these tires via Discount Direct originally. Called my local
store yesterday - they said I could get one that day provided I paid a
12.99 freight charge to get it from the local warehouse. $138.00 total.
That left me a little grumpy, but with a single tire, no notice the cost
was understandable (my original cost was 92.00 each plus shipping, then
the mounting charge). Not to mention unavoidable. I was not interested
in putting the spare set of 15" tires on the car for a week to save
$30.00...
When the manager saw the tire, he asked what I'd been quoted. Since I
was in their computer for several previous purchases, he refigured the
cost to charge me for 4 road hazard warrenties and pro-rated the tire
for a final total cost of $109.00. Cool! I told him I had been planning
to order my 17" Kumhos from Direct to save on taxes but would now order
them through him. He replied - just order them early and I'll get them
for you freight free on a normal delivery. Way cool!
