Transmission rattle

I have a pretty loud rattling noise coming from the transmission in my
'90 200TQ. I've read the SJM website about the updated clutch disc,
and I have the old one. But is it really supposed to be so loud that I
almost can't hear the engine over it? If I depress the clutch, it goes
away. The rattling can be felt as vibrations in the shifter too.
Transmission oil level is OK, everything seems OK. It's just a bit
embarrassing when I can't let out the clutch in neutral without the
car sounding like it's about to fall in pieces..
